Shillong, May 21: Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), Shillong, on Thursday organised a Peace Awareness Walk in observance of World No Tobacco Day to spread awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco use and promote a healthy lifestyle among students and the public.
The rally was inaugurated by Dr. Ashish A. Mao, Vice Chancellor of Martin Luther Christian University.
The programme was attended by Dr. Colleen Pariat, Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, along with faculty members, staff, and students of the University.
The welcome speech was delivered by Balajied Khongkhlad, Assistant Professor, School of Allied Health Sciences, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Rollingstone Kharkongor, NSS Programme Officer, Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong.
The awareness rally commenced from the MLCU Nongrah Campus and covered Lapalang, Rynjah Police Point, Nongrim Pump, and Pohkseh before returning to the campus. Around 500 students participated in the rally along with faculty members and staff, making the programme a grand success.
The University appreciated the active participation and collective efforts of all departments and reaffirmed its commitment towards creating awareness on public health issues and encouraging responsible social action among youth.
