Decomposed Male Body Found Near Weisawdong Falls, Sohra | Magistrate to Conduct Inquiry

Shillong, June 2: A decomposed male body was discovered near Weisawdong Falls at the Riat Arliang parking lot in Umblai, Sohra. on the afternoon of June 2, 2025.

The discovery was made by the search team investigating the case of a honeymooning couple—Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam from Indore, Madhya Pradesh—who had gone missing in the area since May 23, 2025.

The body, found in a highly decomposed and partially skeletonized state, was initially spotted after a drone captured images of human legs at the cliffside. Identification has been challenging due to the advanced stage of decomposition, with only clothing and shoes available as clues.

However, it’s unconfirmed whether the remains belong to Raja Raghuvanshi.

Family members of the missing couple are on their way to the site to assist with identification. Meanwhile, local magistrates have arrived at the scene to conduct a formal inquiry into the matter.

The disappearance of the couple has raised serious concerns, with growing public anxiety about tourist safety in the Khasi Hills region, especially following media reports that question the area’s security for visitors.
